Managing an International Office (Half Day – Afternoon)
This workshop will explore the nuances of managing an international office. The curriculum will provide tips on managing expectations of both the clientele international offices serve, as well as higher level administrators. Topics will cover budgeting and developing a mission statement for the office. In addition, tips on building collaboration with the various departments/units in the university setting will also be explored. Note: this workshop is designed for individuals who have some management responsibilities within their institutions.

Strengthening Leadership in International Education (Half Day – Morning)
Quality of leadership is a highly significant factor in the success of any campus internationalization program. Because administrators in such positions generally have few resources under their direct control, to accomplish our goals we must often rely on convincing others: we need to find ways to lead without being able to control. To strengthen leadership capacity, we will review various resources on leading and work to identify individual leadership styles. We will also review career development in international education and consider case studies. Participants will gain stronger understanding of leadership and of concepts to be applied to current campus environments.

International Admissions and Recruitment for Newcomers (Half Day- Morning)
International recruitment can very challenging and for a new professional to the field and can be quite overwhelming. Basic concepts will be presented regarding various recruitment strategies and how to make them part of a recruitment plan that fits your institution. Other topics covered include recruitment ethics, as well as written and electronic resources.

Essentials of Foreign Credential Evaluation - for the Beginner (Half Day – Afternoon)
Two senior evaluators will present key topics for those having two years or less experience in the field of credential evaluation. Essential issued covered will be: documentation, fraud, resources, and an introduction to the basic educational systems throughout the world, including India and China! Bring your calculators, problems credentials, and questions!

Study Abroad 101 (Full Day)
Designed for professionals who have recently entered the field, this workshop provides an overview of the field of study abroad form the perspectives of personnel form colleges, universities, and program providers. The workshop will use participants’ conference experiences and cover a number of topics including a look at understanding NAFSA, setting up a study abroad office, financial aid, risk management, and advising.

CEP: Beyond Fundamentals - The International Educator as an Interculturalist (Full Day)
This workshop is intended for experienced professionals and designed to address communication and conflict resolution styles as well as issues of adaptation that go beyond the w-curve with applications to specific areas of international education. It will also provide a new approach to cross-cultural ethical dilemmas. This workshop builds on the basic concepts in intercultural communication and presumes that participants are familiar with concepts related to culture, cultural values, nonverbal communication, cultural stereotypes and are able to use the D.I.E. and DMIS models. Lectures, exercises, video, and other experiential methods will be used in the workshop.

CEP: F-1 Regulations for Beginners (Full Day)
This introductory workshop offers participants the basic theoretical and practical knowledge and skills needed to advise the international students on F-1 visa matters. The workshop begins with an overview of terminology and the visa process. It focuses on the responsibilities of a USCIS-approved school and the Designated School Official (DSO), the definition of F-1 status and maintenance of status, creating a SEVIS record and issuing an I-20, dependent visa matters, updating SEVIS records (reports, change of level, program extension), school transfer, reinstatement, change of status, employment and practical training. The format includes lecture, exercises and discussions.

CEP: F-1 Regulations – The Second Step (Full Day)
This workshop is designed for Designated School Officials (DSOs) with more than 15 months of experience in the field of international student advising. Discover the subtleties of the most current F-1 regulations and procedures. In addition, the sensitive and complex issues involving DSO discretion and institutional policy will be explored in tandem with DHS regulatory compliance. Note: this workshop specifically addresses advanced topics.

CEP: J Regulations for Beginners (Full Day)
This workshop is designed for beginners (up to 15 months). It provides basic information related to the administration of J-1 (exchange visitor) programs and advising J-1 students and scholars. It will provide an overview of U.S. Department of State regulations and cover J eligibility, maintenance of status, extension, transfer, reinstatement and employment. We will not provide advanced training or cover requirements specific to trainee, high school, or graduate medical study categories. We also will not cover the procedure of obtaining an exchange visitor program designation. Participants should be prepared to take active part in discussions
