Museum Exhibits
Silk Road to Clipper Ship: Trade, Changing Markets and East Asian Ceramics
Location: Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

This exhibition illustrates the important role of foreign trade and changing domestic markets in stimulating Chinese potters, and their counterparts in Japan and Korea, to continually reinvent their repertoire of shapes and decorative techniques. Includes 60 ceramic works dating from the 2nd through the 20th centuries.

Gus Foster and Ando Hiroshige: The Tokaido Road

A study in contrasts, this exhibition features a collection of 19th-century woodblock prints by Ando Hiroshige along with 20th-century panoramic photographs by artist Gus Foster, both showing the Tokaido Road, Japan's great coastal road.

Founded in 1987, the premier Native American performing arts company, American Indian Dance Theatre, continues to tour North America and the world sharing the music, movement and spectacle of a vibrant and living culture. The Michigan Festival of Sacred Music is a biennial event and will feature such artists as the Tibetan Monks from Deprung Loseling Monastery, Capriccio, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Kalamazoo Singers and Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus along with many others.

Take 6 will blend these genres in a delicious, spirit-soaring feast of sound. The NAEA GospelFest Choir will begin the show with a special performance.
